Musnad Ahmad 658:163

Hujayn narrated to us, Isra'il narrated to us, from Abu Ishaq, from al-Bara', who said: "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) performed 'Umrah in Dhu al-Qa'dah, but the people of Makkah refused to let him enter Makkah, until he made a treaty with them that he would stay there for three days. When they wrote the document, they wrote: 'This is what Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, has agreed upon.' They said: 'We do not acknowledge this. If we knew that you were the Messenger of Allah, we would not have prevented you from anything, but you are Muhammad ibn 'Abdullah.' He said: 'I am the Messenger of Allah, and I am Muhammad ibn 'Abdullah.' He said to 'Ali: 'Erase "the Messenger of Allah."' He said: 'By Allah, I will never erase you.' So the Prophet (ﷺ) took the document—and he did not know how to write—and he wrote in place of "the Messenger of Allah": 'This is what Muhammad ibn 'Abdullah has agreed upon: that no weapon shall enter Makkah except the sword in its scabbard, that no one from its people shall leave with him except those who wish to follow him, and that he shall not prevent any of his companions from staying there.' When he entered it and the term expired, they came to 'Ali and said: 'Tell your companion to leave us, for the term has expired.' So the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) left."
