Yahya ibn Adam and Abu Ahmad narrated to us, they said: Isa ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Bajali, from the tribe of Bajilah of the tribe of Sulaym, narrated to us, from Talhah—Abu Ahmad said: Talhah ibn Musarrif narrated to us—from Abd al-Rahman ibn Awsajah, from al-Bara’ ibn Azib, who said: A Bedouin came to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and said: "O Messenger of Allah, teach me a deed that will cause me to enter Paradise." He said: "Even if you have shortened the sermon, you have broadened the request: Free the soul (nasamah) and release the neck (raqabah)." He said: "O Messenger of Allah, are they not one and the same?" He said: "No. Freeing the soul is that you act alone in freeing it, and releasing the neck is that you assist in its freeing. And the generous gift of a milking animal, and kindness toward the oppressive relative. If you cannot do that, then feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, enjoin the good, and forbid the evil. If you cannot do that, then restrain your tongue except from good."
