Hadith of Al-Bara' bin 'Azib (RA)

Hadith 658:195

Waki’ and Ibn Ja’far narrated to us, they said: Shu’bah narrated to us, from Sulayman ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman, from ‘Ubayd ibn Fayruz, the freed slave of Banu Shayban, in his hadith, he said: I asked al-Bara’ ibn ‘Azib: What did the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) dislike regarding sacrificial animals, or what did he forbid regarding sacrificial animals? He said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) stood among us, and he said—and his hand was longer than my hand, or he said my hand is shorter than his hand—he said: "Four are not permissible in sacrificial animals: the one-eyed whose blindness is obvious, the sick whose sickness is obvious, the lame whose lameness is obvious, and the broken-limbed that has no marrow." I said to al-Bara’: We dislike that there be a deficiency in the ear, or a deficiency in the eye, or a deficiency in the tooth. He said: "Whatever you dislike, then leave it, but do not forbid it for anyone."
