Musnad Ahmad 1146:1

Aswad ibn Amir narrated to us, Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, from Ali ibn Zayd, from al-Hasan: That al-Dahhak ibn Qays wrote to Qays ibn al-Haytham when Yazid ibn Mu'awiyah died: Peace be upon you. To proceed: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, say: "Indeed, before the Hour, there will be tribulations like pieces of a dark night, and tribulations like pieces of smoke. In them, a man’s heart will die just as his body dies. A man will wake up as a believer and go to sleep as a disbeliever, and he will go to sleep as a believer and wake up as a disbeliever. In them, people will sell their portion [of the Hereafter] and their religion for a small amount of worldly goods." And Yazid ibn Mu'awiyah has died, and you are our brothers and our kin, so do not precede us in anything until we choose for ourselves.
