The Hadith of Al-Harith ibn Hassan (RA)

Hadith 235:2

'Affan narrated to us, he said: Salam Abu al-Mundhir narrated to us, from 'Asim ibn Bahdalah, from Abu Wa'il, from al-Harith ibn Hassan, who said: I passed by an old woman in al-Rabadhah who was stranded, from Banu Tamim. He said: She said, "Where do you intend to go?" He said: I said, "We intend to go to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace." She said, "Then carry me with you, for I have a need of him." He said: So I entered the mosque, and it was overflowing with people, and there was a black banner fluttering. I said, "What is the matter with the people today?" They said, "This is the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, intending to send 'Amr ibn al-'As on an expedition." He said: I said, "O Messenger of Allah, if you see fit to make al-Dahna' a barrier between us and Banu Tamim, then do so, for it was once ours." He said: The old woman sat up straight, and zeal took hold of her, and she said, "O Messenger of Allah, where are you forcing the Mudar [tribe]?" I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I carried her, not knowing that she would be an adversary to me." I said, "I seek refuge in Allah from being like the first one." The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "And what did the first one say?" I said, "You have fallen upon one who is informed." (Salam says: This is foolish; he says to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace: "You have fallen upon one who is informed.") He said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "Go on," seeking to hear the story from him. He said: "Indeed, 'Ad sent their delegate, Qayl. He stayed with Mu'awiyah ibn Bakr for a month, who gave him wine to drink and the two female singers sang to him. Then he departed until he reached the mountains of Mahrah, and he said: 'O Allah, I did not come to ransom a captive, nor to treat a sick person. So give Your servant to drink what You used to give him to drink, and give Mu'awiyah ibn Bakr to drink for a month'—thanking him for the wine he drank at his place." He said: Then black clouds passed by, and it was called out: "Take it as ashes, a ruin, leaving no one of 'Ad." Abu Wa'il said: "It reached me that what was sent upon them of the wind was only the measure of what passes through a ring."
