Musnad Ahmad 16:10

Muhammad ibn Ja‘far narrated to us, Shu‘bah narrated to us, he said: I heard Burayd ibn Abi Maryam narrating from Abu al-Hawra’, he said: I said to al-Hasan ibn ‘Ali: What do you remember from the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace? He said: I remember from the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, that I took a date from the dates of the charity and put it in my mouth. He said: So the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, pulled it out with his saliva and put it back with the dates. It was said: O Messenger of Allah, what would it have mattered to you if this boy had this date? He said: "We, the family of Muhammad, charity is not lawful for us." He said: And he used to say: "Leave what makes you doubt for what does not make you doubt, for truthfulness is tranquility, and lying is doubt." He said: And he used to teach us this supplication: "O Allah, guide me among those whom You have guided, grant me well-being among those whom You have granted well-being, take me into Your care among those whom You have taken into Your care, bless for me what You have given, and protect me from the evil of what You have decreed. For indeed, You decree and none can decree against You. Indeed, he whom You take as an ally is not humiliated" — Shu‘bah said: And I think he also said this — "Blessed are You, our Lord, and Exalted." Shu‘bah said: Someone who heard this from him narrated it to me. Then Shu‘bah narrated this hadith, its transmission to al-Mahdi after the death of his father, and he did not doubt the phrase: "Blessed are You and Exalted." So I said to Shu‘bah: You are doubting it. He said: There is no doubt in it.
