Hadith 897:1
Isma'il narrated to us, Sa'id al-Jurayri informed us, from Abu al-'Ala' ibn al-Shikhkhir, from Mutarrif, who said: Two hadiths reached me from the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), and I have known that I have believed them both, but I do not know which of them was before the other. Abu Muslim al-Judhami—of Judhaymah 'Abd al-Qays—narrated to us, al-Jarud narrated to us, who said: While we were with the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) on one of his journeys, and there was a scarcity of riding animals, the people discussed the riding animals. I said: "O Messenger of Allah, you know what suffices us regarding riding animals." He said: "And what suffices us?" I said: "A few camels that we come upon in a ravine, so we enjoy their backs." He said: "No, the stray of a Muslim is a burning fire, so do not approach it. The stray of a Muslim is a burning fire, so do not approach it. The stray of a Muslim is a burning fire, so do not approach it." And he said regarding the lost property: "The stray animal you find, announce it, and do not conceal it, and do not hide it. If it is identified, then return it; otherwise, it is the wealth of Allah, which He gives to whom He wills."
