Musnad Ahmad 1101:11

Aswad ibn Amir narrated to us, Abu Bakr narrated to us, from al-A’mash, from Sulayman ibn Maysarah, from Tariq ibn Shihab, from al-Miqdad ibn al-Aswad, who said: When we arrived in Medina, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) distributed us into groups of ten, meaning in every house. He said: I was among the ten that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was with. He said: We had nothing but a ewe, and we would suffice ourselves with its milk. He said: Whenever the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was late in coming to us, we would drink our share and leave the Prophet’s (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) share. One night, he was late for us. He said: We slept. Al-Miqdad ibn al-Aswad said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) has stayed out long; I do not think he will come tonight, perhaps someone invited him. He said: So I drank it. When a portion of the night had passed, he came and entered the house. He said: When I had drunk it, I could not sleep. He said: When he entered, he gave the greeting of peace, but not loudly. Then he leaned toward the vessel, and when he saw nothing in it, he remained silent. Then he said: "O Allah, feed the one who fed us tonight." He said: I stood up and took the knife, and I went toward the ewe. He said: "What is the matter with you?" I said: I will slaughter it. He said: "No, bring the ewe to me." I brought it to him, and he wiped its udder, and some milk came out. Then he drank and slept.
