Hadith of al-Miqdad ibn al-Aswad (RA)
Hadith 1101:2
Yazid narrated to us, Hammad ibn Salamah informed us, from Thabit, from Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Layla, from al-Miqdad ibn al-Aswad, who said: I and two companions of mine arrived at the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), and we were afflicted with severe hunger. We presented ourselves to the people, but no one hosted us. So the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) took us to his home, where there were four goats. He said to me: "O Miqdad, divide their milk among us into four parts." I used to divide it among us into four parts. One night, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was delayed, and I said to myself that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) must have gone to some of the Ansar, where he ate until he was full and drank until he was quenched. If only I had drunk his portion. I continued in that state until I stood up to his portion and drank it, then I covered the vessel. When I finished, I was seized by what had passed and what had occurred. I said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) will come hungry and find nothing." So I covered myself, and I began to talk to myself. While I was in that state, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) entered and gave a greeting that the awake could hear, but would not wake the sleeper. Then he came to the vessel and uncovered it, but saw nothing. He said: "O Allah, feed the one who fed me, and give drink to the one who gave me drink." I seized the opportunity of the supplication, so I stood up to the knife and took it, then I went to the goats and began to feel them to see which was the fattest. My hand did not pass over the udder of any one of them except that I found it full. I milked until I filled the vessel, then I brought it to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and said: "Drink, O Messenger of Allah." He raised his head toward me and said: "Is it one of your misdeeds, O Miqdad? What is the news?" I said: "Drink, then the news." He drank until he was quenched, then he handed it to me and I drank. He said: "What is the news?" I informed him, and he said: "This is a blessing that descended from the heaven. Why did you not inform me so that we could give our two companions to drink?" I said: "Once the blessing has reached me and you, I do not care who else misses it."
