Musnad Ahmad 462:10

Surayj ibn al-Nu'man narrated to us, Baqiyyah ibn al-Walid narrated to us, from Arta'ah ibn al-Mundhir, from some of the elders of al-Jund, from al-Miqdam ibn Ma'di Karib, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, forbidding the slapping of the cheeks of beasts. And he said: "Indeed, Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, has provided you with sticks and whips."
