Hadith of Al-Miswar bin Makhramah Az-Zuhri and Marwan bin Al-Hakam (RA)

Hadith 695:6

Abu al-Yaman narrated to us, Shu'ayb informed us, from al-Zuhri, Ali ibn Husayn informed me, that al-Miswar ibn Makhramah informed him that Ali ibn Abi Talib proposed to the daughter of Abu Jahl while Fatimah, the daughter of the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), was with him. When Fatimah heard of that, she came to the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) and said to him: "Your people are saying that you do not get angry for your daughters, and here is Ali proposing to the daughter of Abu Jahl." Al-Miswar said: The Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) stood up, and I heard him when he testified (recited the Tashahhud), then he said: "To proceed: I married [my daughter] to Abu al-Aas ibn al-Rabi', and he spoke to me and was truthful to me. Verily, Fatimah, the daughter of Muhammad, is a piece of me, and I dislike that she be distressed. And by Allah, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah and the daughter of the enemy of Allah shall never be gathered together under one man." He said: So Ali abandoned the proposal.
