Narrated to us by Muhammad ibn Ja’far, who said: Narrated to us Shu’bah, from ‘Amr ibn Murrah, who said: I heard Sa’id ibn al-Musayyib narrating from al-Muttalib ibn Abi Wada’ah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) stood upon the minbar and said: "Indeed, the Banu Hisham ibn al-Mughirah sought my permission to marry their daughter to ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib, and I do not grant them permission, then I do not grant them permission, then I do not grant them permission, unless ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib wishes to divorce my daughter and marry their daughter. For indeed, she is a part of me; whatever disturbs her disturbs me, and whatever harms her harms me."
