Musnad Ahmad 652:5

'Affan narrated to us, 'Abd al-Warith narrated to us, Ayyub narrated to us, and he mentioned a hadith. He said: And he narrated from Abu Qilabah, from a man, from al-Nu'man ibn Bashir, who said: The sun eclipsed during the time of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. He said: He would pray two rak'ahs, then ask, then pray two rak'ahs, then ask, until the sun cleared. He said: Then he said: "Indeed, people from the people of the Jahiliyyah say, or claim, that the sun and the moon, when one of them eclipses, it only eclipses for the death of a great one among the great ones of the people of the earth. And that is not so. Rather, they are two creations from the creations of Allah. So when Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, manifests Himself to anything of His creation, it humbles itself before Him."
