Zayd ibn al-Hubab narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to us, Nu'aym ibn Ziyad Abu Talhah al-Anmari narrated to me, that he heard al-Nu'man ibn Bashir saying upon the pulpit of Homs: "We stood with the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, on the night of the twenty-third of the month of Ramadan until the first third of the night. Then we stood with him on the night of the twenty-fifth until the middle of the night. Then he stood with us on the night of the twenty-seventh until we thought we would not reach the *falah*." He said: "And we used to call the *suhur* the *falah*." "As for us, we say the seventh night is the night of the twenty-seventh, and you say the twenty-third night is the seventh. So who is more correct, we or you?"
