Hadith of al-Sharid ibn Suwayd al-Thaqafi (RA)
حديث الشريد بن سويد الثقفي
Hadith 785:23
Sufyan narrated to us, from Ibrahim ibn Maysarah, from ‘Amr ibn al-Sharid, from his father—if Allah wills—or Ya‘qub ibn ‘Asim, meaning from al-Sharid, who said: ‘Abdullah said: Thus my father narrated it to us, he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) made me ride behind him, and he said: "Do you have any of the poetry of Umayyah with you?" I said: "Yes." He said: "Recite to me." So I recited a verse to him, and he said: "Go on." He did not cease saying: "Go on," until I had recited one hundred verses to him.
حدثنا سفيان، عن إبراهيم بن ميسرة، عن عمرو بن الشريد، عن أبيه، إن شاء الله أو يعقوب بن عاصم يعني عن الشريد، قال عبد الله كذا حدثناه أبي، قال: أردفني رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم خلفه، فقال: " هل معك من شعر أمية شيء؟ " قلت: نعم، قال: " أنشدني "، فأنشدته بيتا، فقال: " هيه " فلم يزل يقول: " هيه " حتى أنشدته مائة بيت
