Musnad Ahmad 932:12

Abdullah narrated to us, Sa’id ibn Abi al-Rabi’ al-Samman narrated to us, Sa’id ibn Salamah ibn Abi al-Husam al-Madini informed me, Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Aqil ibn Abi Talib narrated to us, from al-Tufayl ibn Ubayy, from his father, who said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) used to pray facing a trunk when the mosque was a thatched roof, and he used to deliver the sermon to the people beside that trunk. A man from his companions said: "O Messenger of Allah, would you like me to make a pulpit for you to stand upon on Friday, so that the people may see your sermon?" He said: "Yes." So he made for him three steps, which are the ones on the pulpit. When the pulpit was finished and placed in the position where the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) had placed it, it occurred to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) to stand upon that pulpit. He passed by it, and when he went past the trunk that he used to preach to and stand by, that trunk groaned toward him until it cracked and split. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) descended when he heard the sound of the trunk and wiped it with his hand, then returned to the pulpit. Whenever he prayed after that, he would lean toward the trunk. Al-Tufayl said: "When the mosque was demolished and altered, his father, Ubayy ibn Ka’b, took that trunk. It remained with him in his house until it decayed, was eaten by termites, and turned into dust."
