Hadith 146:21
Yazid narrated to us, Mas'udi informed us, from Abu Bakr ibn Hafs ibn 'Umar ibn Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas, from 'Abdullah ibn 'Amir ibn Rabi'ah, from his father—and he was a veteran of Badr—who said: "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to send us out in a military expedition, O my son, and we had no provisions except a ration of dates. He would distribute it, handful by handful, until it reached a single date by a single date." He said: I said to him, "O my father, and what could a single date possibly avail you?" He said: "Do not say that, O my son, for after we lost them, we became in dire need of them."
حدثنا يزيد، أخبرنا المسعودي، عن أبي بكر بن حفص بن عمر بن سعد بن أبي وقاص، عن عبد الله بن عامر بن ربيعة، عن أبيه، وكان بدريا، قال: لقد " كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يبعثنا في السرية يا بني، ما لنا زاد إلا السلف من التمر، فيقسمه قبضة قبضة حتى يصير إلى تمرة تمرة "، قال: فقلت له: يا أبت، وما عسى أن تغني التمرة عنكم، قال: لا تقل ذلك يا بني فبعد أن فقدناها فاختللنا إليها
