Hadith 111:1
Abu al-Nadr narrated to us, Abu Sa’id—meaning al-Mu’addib Muhammad ibn Muslim ibn Abi al-Waddah—narrated to us, Isma’il ibn Abi Khalid and al-Mujalid ibn Sa’id narrated to us, from ‘Amir al-Sha’bi, from ‘Amir ibn Shahr, who said: I heard two statements: one from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and another from the Negus. I heard the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, say: "Observe the Quraysh, and take from their speech, and leave their actions." And I was sitting with the Negus when his son came from school, and he recited a verse from the Gospel, and I recognized it—or I understood it—so I laughed. He said: "What are you laughing at? Is it at the Book of Allah the Exalted? By Allah, among what Allah revealed to Jesus, son of Mary, is that the curse shall be upon the earth when its rulers are children."
حدثنا أبو النضر، حدثنا أبو سعيد يعني المؤدب محمد بن مسلم بن أبي الوضاح، حدثنا إسماعيل بن أبي خالد، والمجالد بن سعيد، عن عامر الشعبي، عن عامر بن شهر، قال: سمعت كلمتين: من النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم كلمة، ومن النجاشي أخرى، سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول: " انظروا قريشا فخذوا من قولهم، وذروا فعلهم "، وكنت عند النجاشي جالسا فجاء ابنه من الكتاب، فقرأ آية من الإنجيل فعرفتها - أو فهمتها - فضحكت، فقال: مم تضحك؟ أمن كتاب الله تعالى؟ فوالله إن مما أنزل الله على عيسى ابن مريم: أن اللعنة تكون في الأرض إذا كان أمراؤها الصبيان
