Musnad Ahmad 991:1

Nuh ibn Yazid Abu Muhammad narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn Sa’d informed us, Ibn Ishaq narrated to me, from ‘Isa ibn Ma’mar, from ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr ibn al-Faghwa’ al-Khuza’i, from his father, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) called me when he intended to send me with wealth to Abu Sufyan to distribute among the Quraysh in Makkah after the conquest. He said: "Seek a companion." He said: So ‘Amr ibn Umayyah al-Damri came to me and said: "It has reached me that you intend to go out and are seeking a companion." I said: "Yes." He said: "Then I am a companion for you." He said: So I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: "I have found a companion." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had said: "If you find a companion, inform me." He said: So he asked: "Who?" I said: "‘Amr ibn Umayyah al-Damri." He said: "When you descend into the land of his people, be wary of him, for the speaker has said: 'Your brother is a Bakri, yet do not trust him.'" He said: So we went out until, when I reached al-Abwa’, he said to me: "I have a need to attend to with my people in Waddan, so wait for me." I said: "Go in guidance." When he turned away, I remembered the words of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), so I urged my camel and set out, making it trot. When I was at al-Asafir, there he was, crossing my path with his group. He said: I made my camel trot and outpaced him. When he saw that I had outstripped him, they turned back, and he came to me and said: "I had a need with my people." I said: "Yes." So we proceeded until we arrived in Makkah, and I handed the wealth over to Abu Sufyan.
