The Remainder of the Hadith of ‘Amr ibn al-‘As (RA) from the Prophet (SAW)
بقية حديث عمرو بن العاص (1) عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم
Hadith 551:27
Yahya ibn Ishaq narrated to us, Layth ibn Sa’d informed us, from Yazid ibn Abi Habib, from Ibn Shamasa, that ‘Amr ibn al-‘As said: When Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, cast Islam into my heart, I came to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, to pledge allegiance to him. He stretched out his hand to me, so I said: "I will not pledge allegiance to you, O Messenger of Allah, until you forgive me for what has preceded of my sins." The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said to me: "O ‘Amr, do you not know that the Hijrah (migration) wipes away the sins that came before it? O ‘Amr, do you not know that Islam wipes away the sins that were before it?"
حدثنا يحيى بن إسحاق، أخبرنا ليث بن سعد، عن يزيد بن أبي حبيب، عن ابن شماسة، أن عمرو بن العاص، قال: لما ألقى الله عز وجل في قلبي الإسلام، قال: أتيت النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم ليبايعني، فبسط يده إلي، فقلت: لا أبايعك يا رسول الله حتى تغفر لي ما تقدم من ذنبي، قال: فقال لي رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: " يا عمرو أما علمت أن الهجرة تجب ما قبلها من الذنوب، يا عمرو أما علمت أن الإسلام يجب ما كان قبله من الذنوب "
