Muhammad ibn Ja‘far narrated to us, Shu‘bah narrated to us, from Habib ibn al-Zubayr, who said: I heard ‘Abdullah ibn Abi al-Hudhayl say: ‘Amr ibn al-‘As used to visit us periodically. A man from Bakr ibn Wa’il said: "If Quraysh do not desist, Allah will surely place this matter in a multitude of the multitudes of the Arabs other than them." ‘Amr ibn al-‘As said: "You have lied. I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, say: 'Quraysh are the guardians of the people, in good and in evil, until the Day of Resurrection.'"
