The Hadith of ‘Amr ibn Umayyah al-Damri: ‘Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us—and ‘Abdullah said: I heard it myself from Ibn Abi Shaybah in Kufa, and Ibn Abi Shaybah said to us regarding it: "From al-Zuhri." As for my father, he narrated it to us from him, and he did not mention al-Zuhri. He narrated it to us in Kufa and attributed it for us to al-Zuhri. Then he returned to my father’s hadith: Ja‘far ibn ‘Awn narrated to us, from Ibrahim ibn Isma‘il, Ja‘far ibn ‘Amr ibn Umayyah informed me, from his father: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sent him alone as a scout to the Quraysh. He said: So I came to the wooden post of Khubayb while I was fearing the scouts, so I climbed it and untied Khubayb, and he fell to the ground. Then I moved away not far, and then I turned around, but I did not see Khubayb; it was as if the earth had swallowed him. No trace of Khubayb has been seen until this hour."
