Hadith of Anas bin Malik, a man from Banu 'Abdullah bin Ka'b (RA)
حديث أنس بن مالك رجل من بني عبد الله بن كعب
Hadith 754:0
Anas ibn Malik reported: A man from the tribe of Banu Abdullah ibn Ka’b came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have a she-camel that I use for transport and for carrying water, and I have a small piece of land that I cultivate. I have a family, and I am a man of wealth." The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Do not withhold the Zakat of your wealth, for it is a purification that purifies you, and maintain ties with your relatives, and acknowledge the right of the beggar, the neighbor, and the needy." The man said, "O Messenger of Allah, explain this to me further." The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, recited: "And give the relative his right, as well as the needy and the traveler, and do not spend wastefully." (Quran 17:26) The man said, "O Messenger of Allah, what is the limit of wastefulness?" The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "If you spend your wealth in other than its right, that is wastefulness. And do not be stingy, for if you withhold your wealth from its right, that is stinginess."
