Abdullah narrated to us, Yahya ibn Uthman—meaning al-Harbi al-Samsar—narrated to us, Ismail ibn Ayyash narrated to us, from Ja’far ibn Hayyan al-Utaridi, from Abd al-Rahman ibn Tarafah ibn Arfajah, from his father, from his grandfather, who said: His nose was injured on the day of al-Kulab—meaning a watering place over which they fought during the Jahiliyyah—and he mentioned the like of it. He said at the end of it: So I fashioned a nose out of gold, but it began to rot on me.
