Musnad Ahmad 1167:28

Abu al-Nadr Hashim ibn al-Qasim narrated to us, he said: Abu Aqil—meaning Abdullah ibn Aqil al-Thaqafi—narrated to us, he said: Hisham narrated to us, he said: My father informed me, from his mother Asma bint Abi Bakr, she said: My mother came to me during the period of the Quraysh [truce] while she was a polytheist, and she was desirous—meaning in need. So I asked the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and I said: "O Messenger of Allah, my mother has come to me while she is a polytheist and desirous; should I maintain ties with her?" He said: "Maintain ties with your mother."
