Musnad Ahmad 1167:4

Hassan narrated to us, he said: Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to us, he said: Abu al-Aswad narrated to us, that he heard 'Urwah narrating from Asma bint Abi Bakr, she said: My mother came to me while she was a polytheist during the time of the Quraysh, when they had made a treaty with the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. So I sought a legal ruling from the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and I said: My mother has come and she is desirous (of my favor), should I maintain ties with her? The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "Yes, maintain ties with your mother."
