Musnad Ahmad 1304:10

'Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated to us, Dawud ibn 'Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, from Ibn Khuthaym, from Shahr ibn Hawshab, from Asma' bint Yazid, that she heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) delivering a sermon, saying: "O you who believe, what compels you to follow one another in lying, just as moths follow one another into the fire? Every lie is written against the son of Adam, except for three traits: a man who lies to his wife to please her, or a man who lies in a ruse of war, or a man who lies between two Muslims to reconcile between them."
