Musnad Ahmad 1304:37

'Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us, Sufyan informed us, from 'Abdullah ibn 'Uthman ibn Khuthaym, from Shahr ibn Hawshab, from Asma' bint Yazid, from the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, who said: "Lying is not appropriate except in three cases: a man lying to his wife so that she may be pleased with him, or lying in war, for war is deception, or lying to bring about reconciliation between people."
