Musnad Ahmad 931:8

Abdullah narrated to us, Hudbah ibn Khalid narrated to us, Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, from Humayd, from al-Hasan, from Utiy, who said: I saw an old man in Medina speaking, so I asked about him, and they said: "This is Ubayy ibn Ka'b." He said: "When death approached Adam, peace be upon him, he said to his sons: 'O my sons, I crave the fruits of Paradise.' So they went out seeking them for him. The angels met them, and with them were his shrouds and his embalming substances, and with them were axes, shovels, and baskets. They said to them: 'O sons of Adam, what do you want and what are you seeking? Or what do you want and where are you going?' They said: 'Our father is ill, and he craved the fruits of Paradise.' They said to them: 'Return, for the decree of your father has been fulfilled.' So they came, and when Eve saw them, she recognized them, so she sought refuge with Adam. He said: 'Get away from me, for I was only brought to this state because of you. Leave me and the angels of my Lord, Blessed and Exalted is He.' So they took his soul, washed him, shrouded him, and embalmed him. They dug for him and made a niche in the side of the grave for him, and they prayed over him. Then they entered his grave and placed him in his grave, and they placed bricks over him. Then they exited the grave, then they threw soil over him, then they said: 'O sons of Adam, this is your Sunnah (practice).'"
