Abu ‘Asim narrated to us, he said: ‘Abd al-Hamid informed us, he said: Salih ibn Abi ‘Arib narrated to us, from Kathir ibn Murrah, from ‘Awf ibn Malik, who said: ‘Awf ibn Malik entered the mosque of Homs. He said: And behold, the people were gathered around a man. He said: "What is this gathering?" They said: "Ka‘b is telling stories." He said: "Woe to him! Did he not hear the saying of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace): 'No one tells stories except an amir (leader), or one who is commanded (by the leader), or a pretentious person'?"
