Musnad Ahmad 288:15

Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated to us, from al-Nu'man ibn Salim, from Ibn Abi Aws, from his grandfather, who said: "I saw the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, perform ablution and wash his hands three times."
