Musnad Ahmad 955:1

Zakariya ibn ‘Adi narrated to us, ‘Ubayd Allah ibn ‘Amr—meaning al-Raqqi—narrated to us, from Zayd ibn Abi Unaysah, Jabalah ibn Suhaym narrated to us, from Abu al-Muthanna al-‘Abdi, who said: I heard al-Sadusi—meaning Ibn al-Khasasiyah—say: I came to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, to pledge allegiance to him. He said: He stipulated upon me the testimony that there is no god but Allah, and that Muhammad is His servant and His Messenger, and that I establish the prayer, and that I pay the zakat, and that I perform the Hajj of Islam, and that I fast the month of Ramadan, and that I strive (jihad) in the way of Allah. I said: O Messenger of Allah, as for two of them, by Allah, I cannot bear them: jihad and charity. For they claim that whoever turns his back [in battle] has incurred wrath from Allah, and I fear that if I am present at such a time, my soul will become greedy and I will dislike death. And as for charity, by Allah, I have nothing but a few sheep and ten camels, which are the providers for my family and their means of transport. He said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, withdrew his hand, then moved his hand, then said: "Then no jihad and no charity? Then with what will you enter Paradise?" He said: I said: O Messenger of Allah, I pledge allegiance to you. He said: So I pledged allegiance to him upon all of them.
