Hadith of Buraydah al-Aslami (RA)

Hadith 1017:55

Zayd ibn al-Hubab narrated to us, Husayn narrated to me, Abdullah ibn Buraydah narrated to me, from his father, that a black slave woman came to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, when he had returned from one of his military expeditions. She said: "I had vowed that if Allah brought you back safely, I would beat the duff (tambourine) in your presence." He said: "If you have vowed, then do so; and if you have not vowed, then do not do so." So she began to beat it. Abu Bakr entered while she was beating it, and others entered while she was beating it. Then Umar entered. She placed her duff behind her and covered herself. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "Indeed, the Shaytan fears you, O Umar. I was sitting, and these people entered, and when you entered, she did what she did."
