Musnad Ahmad 1017:99

Yahya ibn Wadih—who is Abu Tamila—narrated to us, from Abdullah ibn Muslim, from Abdullah ibn Buraydah, from his father, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saw a gold ring on a man’s hand, so he said, "What is the matter with you and the adornment of the people of Paradise?" He said: So he came having worn a ring of brass. He said, "I find upon you the scent of the idolaters." He said: "From what should I take it, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "From silver."
