Musnad Ahmad 1255:17

'Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us, Ibn Jurayj informed us, he said: 'Ata' informed me, he said: 'Abd al-Rahman ibn 'Asim ibn Thabit informed me, that Fatimah bint Qays, the sister of al-Dahhak ibn Qays, informed him—and she was married to a man from Banu Makhzum—that he divorced her three times and went out to some of the military expeditions. He ordered an agent of his to give her some maintenance, but she considered it too little, so she went to one of the wives of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace. The Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, entered while she was with her, and she said: "O Messenger of God, this is Fatimah bint Qays, so-and-so divorced her, and he sent her some maintenance, but she returned it, and she claimed that it was something he was being stingy with." He said: "She spoke the truth." The Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: "Move to the house of Ibn Umm Maktum"—my father said, and al-Khaffaf said: "Umm Kulthum"—"and observe your waiting period ('iddah) with him." Then he said: "No, for Umm Kulthum has many visitors, but move to 'Abd Allah ibn Umm Maktum, for he is a blind man." So she moved to 'Abd Allah and observed her waiting period with him until her waiting period ended. Then Abu Jahm and Mu'awiyah ibn Abi Sufyan proposed to her. She came to the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, to seek his counsel regarding them. He said: "As for Abu Jahm, I fear for you his striking with the staff"—and al-Khaffaf said: "his tapping with the staff"—"and as for Mu'awiyah, he is a man who has no wealth." So she married Usamah ibn Zayd after that.
