Musnad Ahmad 1263:1

Bishr ibn al-Mufaddal narrated to us, he said: Sa‘d ibn Ishaq ibn Ka‘b ibn ‘Ujrah al-Ansari narrated to us, from his paternal aunt Zaynab bint Ka‘b, that Furay‘ah bint Malik ibn Sinan, the sister of Abu Sa‘id al-Khudri, narrated to her: That her husband went out in pursuit of some slaves of his who had fled, and he overtook them at the edge of al-Qadum, and they killed him. News of his death reached her while she was in one of the houses of the Ansar, far from the house of her own family. She disliked observing the waiting period (*‘iddah*) there, so she came to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and said: "O Messenger of Allah, the news of my husband’s death reached me while I was in one of the houses of the Ansar, far from the house of my family. He did not leave me in a dwelling that he owned, nor did he leave me with any provision to spend on me, nor did I inherit any wealth from him. If you see fit, I would like to join my brothers and my family, so that our affairs may be together, for that is more beloved to me." He gave me permission to join my family, so I went out, happy with that. But when I was in the room—or he called me, or ordered that I be called—I was summoned, and he said to me: "What did you claim?" I repeated it to him, and he said: "Stay in the house of your husband in which the news of his death reached you, until the decree reaches its term." She said: So I observed the waiting period in it for four months and ten days.
