Hadith of Hafsa (RA), the Mother of the Believers, daughter of Umar ibn al-Khattab (RA)
حديث حفصة أم المؤمنين بنت عمر بن الخطاب رضي الله عنهما
Hadith 1155:33
Yunus ibn Muhammad narrated to us, he said: Layth—meaning ibn Sa‘d—narrated to us, from Nafi‘, that Safiyyah bint Abi ‘Ubayd narrated to him, from Hafsah or ‘Aishah, or from both of them, that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "It is not permissible for a woman who believes in Allah and the Last Day, or who believes in Allah and His Messenger, to observe mourning for a dead person for more than three days, except for her husband."
حدثنا يونس بن محمد، قال: حدثنا ليث يعني ابن سعد، عن نافع، أن صفية ابنة أبي عبيد، حدثته عن حفصة، أو عائشة، أو عن كلتيهما أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: " لا يحل لامرأة تؤمن بالله واليوم الآخر، أو تؤمن بالله ورسوله، أن تحد على ميت فوق ثلاثة أيام، إلا على زوجها "
