Hadith 951:3
Abu Kamil narrated to us, Ibrahim—meaning Ibn Sa'd—narrated to us, Ibn Shihab narrated to us, from Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib, who said: Umar passed by Hassan while he was reciting poetry in the mosque, so he said: "Desist." Hassan said to him: "I used to recite [poetry] in the presence of one who was better than you." Umar then turned away, knowing that he meant the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.
حدثنا أبو كامل، حدثنا إبراهيم يعني ابن سعد، حدثنا ابن شهاب، عن سعيد بن المسيب، قال: مر عمر على حسان وهو ينشد في المسجد، فقال: مه . قال له حسان: " قد كنت أنشد من هو خير منك "، قال: فانصرف عمر وهو يعرف أنه يريد رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم
