Musnad Ahmad 185:1

Yahya ibn Ishaq narrated to us, from his book, he said: Ibn Lahi'ah informed us, from Abdullah ibn Hubayrah, from Hassan ibn Kurayb, that a boy of theirs died, and his parents grieved over him with the most intense grief. Hawshab, a companion of the Prophet (peace be upon him), said: "Shall I not inform you of what I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say regarding the likes of your son? A man among his companions had a son who had begun to walk—or crawl—and he used to come with his father to the Prophet (peace be upon him). Then his son died, and his father grieved over him for nearly six days, not coming to the Prophet (peace be upon him)." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "I do not see so-and-so." They said: "O Messenger of Allah, his son has died, and he is grieving over him." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said to him: "O so-and-so, would you love for your son to be with you now, as the most energetic of boys in energy? Would you love for your son to be with you as one of the boldest of youths? Would you love for your son to be with you as a mature man, like the best of mature men? Or would you rather it be said to you: 'Enter Paradise as a reward for what was taken from you?'"
