Hadith 946:4
Waki’ narrated to us, Hisham bin Sa’d narrated to us, Yazid bin Nu’aym bin Hazzal informed me, from his father: That Ma’iz bin Malik was under his care. When he committed adultery, he said to him: "Go to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and inform him." When he met him, the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said to him: "O Hazzal, had you covered him with your garment, it would have been better than what you have done with him."
حدثنا وكيع، حدثنا هشام بن سعد ، أخبرني يزيد بن نعيم بن هزال، عن أبيه: أن ماعز بن مالك كان في حجره، فلما فجر، قال له: ائت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم فأخبره. فقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم له ولقيه: " " يا هزال، أما لو كنت سترته بثوبك، لكان خيرا مما صنعت به " "
