Hadith of Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman (RA) from the Prophet (SAW)
Hadith 1034:10
Abu Mu'awiyah narrated to us, al-A'mash narrated to us, from Khaythama, from Abu Hudhayfah—Abu 'Abd al-Rahman said: His name is Salamah ibn al-Haytham ibn Suhayb, one of the companions of Ibn Mas'ud—from Hudhayfah, who said: When we were present with the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, at a meal, we would not place our hands [in the food] until the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, began and placed his hand. We were present with him at a meal, and a slave girl came as if she were being pushed, and she went to place her hand in the food. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, took her hand. Then a Bedouin came as if he were being pushed, and he went to place his hand in the food. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, took his hand. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "Indeed, Satan considers food lawful when the name of Allah is not mentioned over it. He brought this slave girl to make it lawful through her, so I took her hand. And he brought this Bedouin to make it lawful through him, so I took his hand. By the One in Whose hand is my soul, his hand is in my hand along with their hands." Meaning: Satan.
