Musnad Ahmad 1034:123

Muhammad ibn Abi ‘Adi narrated to us, from Ibn ‘Awn, from Mujahid, from Ibn Abi Layla, who said: Ibn ‘Awn narrated to us, from Mujahid, from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Layla, who said: I went out with Hudhayfah to some of this Sawad (region of Iraq), and he asked for a drink. A Dihqan (local leader) brought him a vessel made of silver. He said: So he threw it at his face. He said: We said, "Be quiet, be quiet! For if we ask him, he will not speak to us." He said: So we remained silent. He said: When some time had passed after that, he said, "Do you know why I threw it at his face?" We said, "No." He said, "I had forbidden him." He then mentioned the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and said: "Do not drink from vessels of gold." Mu’adh said: "Do not drink from gold or silver, and do not wear silk or Dibaj (brocade), for they are for them in this world and for you in the Hereafter."
