Musnad Ahmad 1034:184

Muhammad ibn Ja‘far narrated to us, Shu‘bah narrated to us, from Abu al-Tayyah, who said: I heard Sakhr narrating from Subay‘, who said: They sent me from Mah to al-Kufah to buy beasts of burden. We came to al-Kunasa, and there was a man with a crowd around him. He said: As for my companion, he went off to the beasts, but as for me, I went to him, and it was Hudhayfah. I heard him saying: The companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to ask him about the good, and I used to ask him about the evil. I said: "O Messenger of Allah, is there any evil after this good, just as there was evil before it?" He said: "Yes." I said: "What is the protection from it?" He said: "The sword." Abu al-Tayyah thinks he said: "The sword." I think he said: I said: "Then what?" He said: "Then there will be a truce based on smoke (hidden corruption)." I said: "Then what?" He said: "Then there will be callers to misguidance. If you see on that day a Caliph of Allah on the earth, then stick to him, even if your body is emaciated and your wealth is taken. If you do not see him, then flee into the earth, even if you die while biting onto the trunk of a tree." I said: "Then what?" He said: "Then the Dajjal will emerge." I said: "What will he bring with him?" He said: "A river—or he said: water—and fire. Whoever enters his river, his reward will be removed and his sin will be incumbent upon him. And whoever enters his fire, his reward will be incumbent upon him and his sin will be removed." I said: "Then what?" He said: "Even if you were to breed a horse, you would not ride its foal until the Hour is established."
