Hadith of Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman (RA) from the Prophet (SAW)

Hadith 1034:94

Ya'qub narrated to us, my father narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, Yazid ibn Ziyad narrated to me, from Muhammad ibn Ka'b al-Qurazi, who said: A young man from among us, from the people of Kufa, said to Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman: "O Abu 'Abd Allah, did you see the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and accompany him?" He said: "Yes, O son of my brother." He said: "And how did you act?" He said: "By Allah, we used to exert ourselves." He said: "By Allah, if we had reached him, we would not have let him walk upon the earth; we would have carried him upon our necks." Hudhayfah said: "O son of my brother, by Allah, I saw us with the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, at the Trench. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, prayed a portion of the night, then he turned to us and said: 'Who is a man who will stand up and look for us at what the people are doing, and the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, stipulates for him that he will return, and Allah will admit him into Paradise?'" He said: "No man stood up. Then the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, prayed a portion of the night, then he turned to us and said: 'Who is a man who will stand up and look for us at what the people are doing, then return, and the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, stipulates for him the return, and I ask Allah that he be my companion in Paradise?'" He said: "No man from the people stood up, due to the intensity of the fear, the intensity of the hunger, and the intensity of the cold. When no one stood up, the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, called me, and I had no choice but to stand when he called me. He said: 'O Hudhayfah, go and enter among the people and see what they are doing, and do not cause anything to happen until you come to us.'" He said: "So I went and entered among the people, while the wind and the soldiers of Allah were doing what they were doing; they would not let a cooking pot settle, nor a fire, nor a structure. Abu Sufyan ibn Harb stood up and said: 'O assembly of Quraysh, let a man look at who is sitting next to him.'" Hudhayfah said: "So I took the hand of the man who was next to me and said: 'Who are you?' He said: 'I am so-and-so, son of so-and-so.' Then Abu Sufyan said: 'O assembly of Quraysh, by Allah, you are not in a place of residence. The horses have perished, the Banu Qurayzah have broken their promise to us, and we have heard from them what we dislike. We have encountered from this wind what you see; by Allah, no cooking pot settles for us, no fire stands, and no structure holds together. So depart, for I am departing.' Then he stood up to his camel, which was hobbled, and sat upon it. Then he struck it, and it leaped on three legs. He did not untie its hobble until it was standing." "If it were not for the covenant of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace—'Do not cause anything to happen until you come to me'—I could have killed him with an arrow." Hudhayfah said: "Then I returned to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, while he was standing, praying in a cloak belonging to one of his wives, which was patterned. When he saw me, he brought me into his cloak and threw the edge of the cloak over me, then he bowed and prostrated while I was inside it. When he finished the prayer, I informed him of the news. The Ghatafan heard what the Quraysh had done, so they retreated to their lands."

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
