Hadith of Ibn al-Adra' (RA)

حديث ابن الأدرع

Hadith 715:1

Waki’ narrated to us, Hisham bin Sa’d informed us, from Zayd bin Aslam, from Ibn al-Adra’, who said: I was guarding the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, one night, and he went out for some need of his. He said: He saw me, so he took my hand, and we set off. We passed by a man praying, reciting the Quran aloud. The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "Perhaps he is showing off." I said: O Messenger of Allah, he is praying, reciting the Quran aloud. He said: He let go of my hand, then said: "You will never attain this matter by overpowering it." He said: Then he went out one night, and I was guarding him for some need of his, and he took my hand. We passed by a man praying with the Quran. He said: I said: Perhaps he is showing off. The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "Not at all, he is one who frequently turns back (to Allah in repentance)." He said: So I looked, and it was Abdullah Dhu al-Bijadayn.
