Musnad Ahmad 790:160

Rawh narrated to us, Sa’id ibn Abi ‘Arubah narrated to us, from Qatadah, from al-Hasan, from ‘Imran ibn Husayn, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "I do not ride upon purple (saddlecloths), nor do I wear saffron-dyed garments, nor do I wear a shirt hemmed with silk." He (the narrator) said: And al-Hasan gestured toward the collar of his shirt. And he said: "Behold, the perfume of men is that which has a scent but no color. Behold, the perfume of women is that which has a color but no scent."
