Hadith 790:32
Bahz and 'Affan—the meaning is the same—said: Hammam narrated to us, from Qatadah, from al-Hasan, who said: 'Affan said: Indeed, al-Hasan narrated to them, from Hayyaj ibn 'Imran al-Burjami, that a slave of his father ran away, so he made a vow to Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, that if he were able to capture him, he would cut off his hand. He said: Then he was able to capture him. He said: So he sent me to 'Imran ibn Husayn. He said: He said: "Convey my greeting to your father and inform him that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, used to urge charity in his sermon and forbid mutilation. So let him offer expiation for his oath and pardon his slave." He said: And he sent me to Samurah, and he said: "Convey my greeting to your father and inform him that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, used to urge charity in his sermon and forbid mutilation. So let him offer expiation for his oath and pardon his slave."
