Hadith 790:43
Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn al-Muthanna narrated to us, Salih ibn Rustum Abu Amir al-Khazzaz narrated to us, Kathir ibn Shanzir narrated to me, from al-Hasan, from Imran ibn Husayn, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) never stood among us to deliver a sermon without commanding us to give charity and forbidding us from *al-muthla* (mutilation/excessive self-affliction). He said: And he said: "Beware, for indeed, part of *al-muthla* is for a man to vow that he will pierce his nose. Beware, for indeed, part of *al-muthla* is for a man to vow that he will perform Hajj walking; so let him offer a sacrificial animal and let him ride."
حدثنا محمد بن عبد الله بن المثني، حدثنا صالح بن رستم أبو عامر الخزاز، حدثني كثير بن شنظير، عن الحسن، عن عمران بن حصين قال: ما قام فينا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم خطيبا إلا أمرنا بالصدقة، ونهانا عن المثلة. قال: وقال: " ألا وإن من المثلة أن ينذر الرجل أن يخزم أنفه، ألا وإن من المثلة أن ينذر الرجل أن يحج ماشيا فليهد هديا وليركب "
