Hadith 790:51
'Affan narrated to us, Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, 'Ali ibn Zayd informed us, from Abu Nadrah, that a young man asked 'Imran ibn Husayn about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) while traveling. He turned toward the gathering of the 'Awqah and said: "This young man asked me about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) while traveling, so memorize from me: 'The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) never went on a journey except that he prayed two rak'ahs, two rak'ahs, until he returned. And he stayed in Makkah during the time of the Conquest for eighteen nights, praying with the people two rak'ahs, two rak'ahs.'" Yunus ibn Muhammad narrated it to us with this chain of narration, and added in it: "Except for the Maghrib (prayer)." Then he would say: "O people of Makkah, stand up and pray two other rak'ahs, for we are travelers." Then he went on the expedition to Hunayn and Ta'if, and he prayed two rak'ahs, two rak'ahs. Then he returned to Ji'ranah and performed 'Umrah from there in Dhu al-Qa'dah. Then I went on an expedition with Abu Bakr, and I performed Hajj and 'Umrah, and he prayed two rak'ahs, two rak'ahs. And with 'Umar, and he prayed two rak'ahs, two rak'ahs—Yunus said: "Except for the Maghrib"—and with 'Uthman during the beginning of his leadership, and he prayed two rak'ahs—Yunus said: "Except for the Maghrib." Then 'Uthman prayed four (rak'ahs) after that.
حدثنا عفان، حدثنا حماد بن سلمة، أخبرنا علي بن زيد، عن أبي نضرة، أن فتى سأل عمران بن حصين عن صلاة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم في السفر فعدل إلى مجلس العوقة فقال: إن هذا الفتى سألني عن صلاة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم في السفر فاحفظوا عني: " ما سافر رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم سفرا إلا صلى ركعتين ركعتين حتى يرجع، وإنه أقام بمكة زمان الفتح ثماني عشرة ليلة يصلي بالناس ركعتين ركعتين " وحدثناه يونس بن محمد بهذا الإسناد، وزاد فيه " إلا المغرب " ثم يقول: " يا أهل مكة قوموا فصلوا ركعتين أخريين؛ فإنا سفر ". ثم غزا حنينا والطائف فصلى ركعتين ركعتين، ثم رجع إلى جعرانة فاعتمر منها في ذي القعدة، ثم غزوت مع أبي بكر وحججت واعتمرت، فصلى ركعتين ركعتين، ومع عمر فصلى ركعتين ركعتين، قال يونس: إلا المغرب، ومع عثمان صدرا من إمارته فصلى ركعتين، قال يونس: إلا المغرب، ثم إن عثمان صلى بعد ذلك أربعا
