Hadith 790:57
Isma'il narrated to us, he said: Ali bin Zaid informed us, from Abu Nadrah, who said: Imran bin Husayn passed by our gathering, and a young man from the people stood up to him and asked him about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) during military expeditions, Hajj, and Umrah. He came and stood over us and said: "This one asked me about a matter, and I wanted you to hear it," or as he said: "I went on a military expedition with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and he did not pray except two rak'ahs until he returned to Medina. I performed Hajj with him, and he did not pray except two rak'ahs until he returned to Medina. I witnessed the Conquest with him, and he stayed in Mecca for eighteen [days], not praying except two rak'ahs, and he would say to the people of the city: 'Pray four, for we are travelers.' I performed Umrah with him three times, and he did not pray except two rak'ahs. I performed Hajj with Abu Bakr and Umar for several Hajj [seasons], and they did not pray except two rak'ahs until they returned to Medina."
